How to install a MOGRT in Premiere Pro.

A MOGRT (Motion Graphics Template) is a ready-made animation such as a lower third, a title or a transition that you use inside Premiere Pro by changing its text and colors. It comes as a single .mogrt file.

How to install a MOGRT file

  1. Open the templates panelWindow › Essential Graphics. In recent versions this panel is called Graphics Templates.
  2. Press the install buttonPress Install Motion Graphics template in the bottom-right corner of the panel and pick the .mogrt file. The same command is in the Graphics and Titles menu.
  3. Drag the template to the timelineThe installed template appears in the list; drag it onto a video track.
  4. Change text and colorSelect the clip; its controls open in the Edit tab of Essential Graphics (the Properties panel in recent versions).

Common problems

If you get a missing font warning, install the font the template uses or choose another font in its controls. If the template is not in the list, check the search box and the library filter in the panel. Some templates are built in After Effects and may need a newer version of Premiere; check the version note where you got the template.

Using templates without installing: Sylba

Sylba's Graphics section has more than 200 templates inside the panel; 47 of them are free. There is nothing to download and install.

  1. Open the Graphics sectionChoose a type from the list on the left: lower third, credits, text animation, carousel, interface card.
  2. Preview and pickCards show an animated preview.
  3. Send to the timelineThe template is added to your sequence as a MOGRT; change text, font and colors in Premiere.

For a good lower third

Use at most two lines in a lower third: name and title. Keep it on screen for at least three seconds so it can be read. Sticking to one template family and two colors within a video makes the work look tidy.
